Obesity and Cancer

Obesity and Cancer

Changing life style, food habits with growing amenities causes for many diseases like obesity.  Obesity can ruin a person’s health for many reasons. Too much of weight gives additional danger for women like infertility and breast cancer.

Studies have revealed that there is a link between breast cancer and obesity Doctor’s are not sure how it is connected but they are convinced about the fact and advising the women to maintain there weight through regular exercise and dieting. Physical exercise helps to avert this most common cancer among females.

October being the National Breast Cancer Awareness month declared by the government, educating the women about this link should be given priority, as the obesity rates in America continues to climb. Not only in America but world wide awareness should be initiated as the problem of obesity exists everywhere. As per the estimates of American Cancer Society about 182,500 women in United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in2008, and there are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in America.

Studies have revealed that, in general, obesity is linked to cancer “There are lot of factors we need to figure out” said Dr.Jennifer a cancer institute in Boston. A recent research conducted by scientists, University of Manchester in England said that a person having higher body mass index is more likely to develop cancer. Besides that they are more likely to live shorter lives and suffer a recurrence of their cancer if they are overweight. For example, in a recent study conducted at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, found that a greater proportion of obese women with a rare kind of deadly breast cancer called inflammatory breast cancer.

Obesity may make it difficult to detect the tumor in the earliest stage. Obesity or overweight can lead to fluctuations in hormone levels like estrogen and insulin.  Menopause appears to be a critical period in women’s life which creates so many problems one among them is breast cancer Whatever may be the cause it is better to watch your weight through regular exercise Better to go for tests like mammogram which are easily available everywhere and make your life happy.

There is good news. Studies have shown that exercise -- 30 minutes to 60 minutes a day of moderate-to-high intensity physical activity -- decreases breast cancer risk, Doyle said. "Physical activity reduces breast cancer risk both directly, by decreasing circulating estrogens, and also indirectly, by helping with weight control," she said. "Women are so concerned about breast cancer risk. Communicating that there are key things you can do to reduce risk -- watch your weight and be more active -- are valuable messages."

There is nothing more than exercise to keep your hormone level steadily and reduce the risk of breast cancer.
